Suresh De Mel
Chief Executive Office

Suresh is an entrepreneur and investor.  He actively promotes aquatic recreation and has been investing in Sports Fishing and Boating in Sri Lanka for over two decades. He also owns and operates Lanka Fishing Flies, which is a pioneering manufacturer of designer and signature, hand tied Fishing Flies which are exported worldwide under the brand Umpqua. Umpqua is arguably the best and largest producer of high quality fishing flies in the world.

While Suresh spends most of his time travelling within and outside Sri Lanka, for business and for pleasure, he loves taking time out to go fly fishing on the Bolgoda Lake and dreams of Big Game fishing for Blue Marlin off the coast of Sri Lanka.

He is also well known in Sri Lanka as a socially responsible citizen who is actively engaged in promoting sustainable tourism and export development, empowerment of rural SME’s, and youth entrepreneurship.

Capt. Nicolas Jamin
Sport Fishing Director

Nicolas aka Nico is the Sportfishing Director of Sportfishing Lanka. With over 20 years of sport fishing experience in tropical countries, Nico serves as our captain, head fishing guide, and trip manager. He is also a specialist and consultant in product development, testing, and promotion for our parent company, Lanka Fishing Flies.

Nico has worked as a fishing reporter to « Le Magazine des Voyages de Pêche», a french fishing travel magazine which has allowed him to fish in remarkable destinations with outstanding people. Continuous pursuit of such assignments - to connect with globally experienced fishing guides and sport fishermen, but also product designers and developers, is the best way to stay updated on his fishing knowledge and strengthen his networks.

After that, Nico has guided and skippered clients in different locations including Andaman Islands, Costa Rica, and Bijagos Islands, to put them on their dream fish like big GT’s, Dogtooth tuna, Cubera snapper, Tarpon, Sailfish and Marlin. He has been the subject of magazine articles, appeared in TV shows and fished with very famous fishermen like Sami Ghandour from Saltywater Tackle, Kozo Okubo from Smith, Fred Goh from Rapala in Asia and Julien Lajournade the chef editor of "Le Magazine des Voyages de Pêche". He earned his reputation one day at a time, fishing with people just like you, sharing his passion for fishing and the outdoors.

Since the last 10 years, Nico has been a fishing guide to target big GT’s on popper in Sri Lanka. He started with a company named Gamefishing Asia that has now closed. Since 2018, with Sportfishing Lanka, Nico is a trip manager and also guides our boats. Nico loves any kind of fishing, some of his favourite personal forms of fishing are casting poppers for big GT’s, any forms of jigging, chasing billfish in bluewater and casting lures or fly fish in backwaters for barramundi and mangrove jacks or even any predator fish in freshwater like snakehead or mahseer.

Fishing Guide

Shaktivel is our local fishing guide at Bolgoda Lake. He has been boatman on the lake for years and knows the fishing spots as nobody.

Shakti (his nickname) learned the fishing at Bolgoda Lake mainly trolling lures to catch Barramundi, Mangrove Jack and others predators. Since 8 years, we have teached him how to guide anglers who want to fish with casting lures. 

With his new knowledges and his own experience of the lake, you will have the best guide to fish Bolgoda Lake to target your dream fish.
